Bon Secour

Situated on the inside coast of the Fort Morgan peninsula of southern Alabama, this “safe harbor” offers secluded views, rich history, and some of the best fishing around!

Bon Secour is approximately 35 miles East of the AL / MS state line and 45 miles West of Pensacola, FL. Bon Secour is home to a variety of inland waterways and easy access to a variety of bodies of water.

Bon Secour, French for “Safe Harbor” received its name from Jacques Cook who came from Montreal.

Originally a fishing village in the late 19th century, the infamous BP oil spill in 2010 nearly wiped out the economy in Bon Secour, which still relied heavily on fishing and shrimping. Thankfully, the fishing economy has since recovered and today, Bon Secour lives up to its past by providing a variety of seafood to hungry customers near and far.

Bon Secour is an ideal place to build a home for those who prefer to live in an area that's not busy with tourists like the nearby towns of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. It’s a hidden gem in Baldwin County, with ample opportunity to buy land with spectacular views that would cost much more in other parts of Alabama's Gulf Coast.

What to see:

The beautiful circa 1882 Swift-Coles Historic Home on the banks of the Bon Secour River was the home of Charles Swift and his family. It was located near one of the first Swift lumber mills. The home was occupied by the family until 1976, at which time it was purchased by Nick Coles, who was passionate about its preservation. The home was bequeathed to the Baldwin County Historic Development Commission in 2007. We are now a beautiful Wedding &

Reception (and special events) Venue and the home is open on Tuesdays & Fridays for tours.

Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge encompasses some of Alabama’s last remaining undisturbed coastal barrier habitat. Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge was established by Congress in 1980 for the protection of neotropical migratory songbird habitat and threatened and endangered species. Bon Secour represents an important stopover and staging habitat for neotropical migratory songbirds during the fall and spring migration along the Alabama coastline. Migratory birds utilize this area for resting and building fat reserves critical to successful migration.
